A Second Chance
Can an old curmudgeon change his ways before it’s too late?
By Ingrid Randoja
Have you ever regretted something you’ve done?
We know, we know, you’re only a kid, but even kids have regrets! Ebenezer Scrooge believes he’s lived a good life in 19th-century London, England, and has no regrets. It doesn’t bother him that he’s cheap and doesn’t pay his assistant Bob Cratchit very well — and poor Bob has a big family, including a sick son named Tiny Tim, to care for.
Scrooge also left behind the woman he loved to pursue his career, and destroyed his former employer’s business so he could prosper. Then one Christmas Eve three ghosts — representing Scrooge’s past, present and future — appear to show him the error of his ways.
You’ve probably heard of Scrooge, the lead character in author Charles Dickens’ famous story, A Christmas Carol, and perhaps you’ve seen the old movie (based on the book) that plays on TV every Christmas. Now there’s a new movie version of the tale starring Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge.
Carrey also plays the three ghosts who come to visit Scrooge. The movie was filmed using the hi-tech, special-effects process known as “motion-capture,” which was also used in The Polar Express.
A Christmas Carol opens November 6
